According to WICE, women represent 9% of engineering professionals in the UK, 18% in Spain, 26% in Sweden and 20% in Italy. The European Women in Construction & Engineering Awards has the ambition to make these industries more enticing to women, to create role models for women considering a career in these sectors, and to encourage companies to employ and train more women. Ramboll is delighted to have four finalists chosen for the awards.
Ramboll’s UK-based Jackie Heath (Best Woman Structural Engineer), Denise Wright (Best Woman Project Manager) and Sarah Penry (Best Female Mentor), and Germany-based Britta Wesseling (Best Woman in Health and Safety) have been shortlisted in the awards.
Steve Laking (Ramboll’s Environment & Health (E&H) Europe & Africa (EUA) Division President) says, “It’s fantastic to see these colleagues being justifiably recognised for their success and professionalism. In the E&H EUA Division alone, 44% of our technical staff are women. Quality role models in senior roles throughout the company, such as these finalists, are inspirational – not only to the younger women at the start of their careers, but to all staff.”
Now in its fourth year, the event is called Breaking Down Barriers and Building New Heights, and aims to celebrate and highlight the achievements of women working in construction and engineering and provide a platform for networking with other women working all over Europe.
WICE received approximately 350 nominations from 10 European countries. Finalists were selected by a panel of judges from within the industry. Judging will take place on 26 April with winners to be announced at the award ceremony in London on 24 May.
